Did you know?:
Scientists have discovered that sunflowers can pull radioactive contaminants out of the soil and the water. The technique was used after the Chernobyl disaster in Russia, and researchers working to clean up the Fukushima site in Japan are now putting the flowers to the test there.

Boden Plumbing Earns Best Practices Award from the Business Environmental Alliance
Boden Plumbing has earned the Sonoma County Business Environmental Alliance Best Practices Award, which recognizes businesses that best exemplify environmental excellence through sound business practices. The award will be presented March 11 at the Business Environmental Alliance breakfast. Casey will be attending the breakfast at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek in Santa Rosa, along with the fifteen other Sonoma County businesses being honored.
The BEA recognized us for our installation and promotion of water-conservation options with our customers and at our office here in Sonoma.
Our big-ticket item was almost surely our participation in Sonoma County's recent Direct Install Program. The Sonoma County Water Agency has projected that the fixtures we changed out as part of that program will save 4,438,152 gallons, or 13.62 acre feet, per year. These figures represent 11% of the total water savings gained by the program.
We're actually quite proud of these figures. We worked hard to make sure we reached as many people as possible. The program made new low flow toilets extremely affordable for our customers and obviously had the potential for saving the community as a whole a lot of water.
We also participated in the Water Wisdom Workshop in Sonoma, and as part of our ongoing efforts to use resources wisely, we recycle all metal, porcelain, cardboard and paper and have implemented energy-saving measures in our office.
Boden Plumbing is extremely pleased to be recognized by the Sonoma County Business Environmental Alliance for the efforts we've made to 'green' our operations and provide environmentally sustainable products and services to our customers. We don't do these kinds of things for the recognition, but it's good to know environmental practices are valued and those values are shared. We're excited to be involved in what we believe is the future for all good business in California
For more information about BEA or to register for the breakfast, go to www.sonomabea.org.
The other Sonoma Valley business also being honored at the March 11th event is Kunde Wine Estates. You can read a full write-up in the Sonoma Index-Tribune. See: Boden Plumbing, Kunde Wine Estates earn Sonoma County environmental honors

BBB Welcomes Boden Plumbing
Boden Plumbing recently took the step to make our commitment to good customer service official and joined with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) in promoting ethical business practices.
Just so you know what being accredited by the BBB really means and what we signed up for, we've laid it all out below. For the record.
If a business has been accredited, it means the BBB has determined that the business meets the its Standards of Trust, which include a commitment to make a good faith effort to resolve any consumer complaints. BBB accredited businesses pay a fee for accreditation review, monitoring and for support of BBB services to the public.
BBB accreditation does not mean that the business’ products or services have been evaluated or endorsed by the BBB, or that the BBB has made a determination as to the business’ product quality or competency in performing services.
To be an accredited business with BBB, an applicant must, at a minimum -
1. Be in business in the BBB’s service area for not less than six months, unless:
- The principals are well known to BBB because of other businesses in which they have been involved.
- The firm is a branch of an already accepted member company that has met these standards.
- The firm has moved from, or is an expansion of, a firm in another BBB’s service area where it was a member in good standing.
To participate in BBB Seal Programs, a company must be in business for a minimum of 12 months.
2. Supply accurate background information about its principals and employees, as well as other information deemed essential to BBB’s responsibility to provide inquirers with factual reports on its reliability. In addition, companies must promptly comply with requests by BBB for information concerning the location, nature and management of its business.
3. Agree to and sign a Membership Agreement and pay membership dues within the time specified by the By-Laws or by the Board of Directors.
4. Support BBB principles, which include:
- Promote high standards of business integrity
- Support the free enterprise system
- Support the self-regulation of business
- Cooperate with BBB’s activities and efforts to promote voluntary self-regulation within the business industry
- Avoid any activity that reflects unfavorably on the BBB or its members.
5. Give reasonable response to any customer complaint brought to its attention by BBB and promptly inform BBB of such response.
- Make good faith efforts to resolve all such complaints in accordance with generally accepted good business practices
- Cooperate with BBB in efforts to eliminate the underlying causes of patterns of customer complaints that BBB may call to the company’s attention.
So that's our pledge to you - our customer, our potential customers and the people of our community - for the record.
Call Boden Plumbing with confidence. We're here to help.

Boden Plumbing Joins GreenPlumbers USA

It's official. Boden Plumbing is now a member of GreenPlumbers. We have been enjoying their courses and taking advantage of the great resources they make available for awhile now, but we recently took the extra step and became a member.
We've made a commitment to always look for the 'green' or sustainable option - both in how we operate as a company and in the products and services we offer to our customers. Joining forces with other plumbers doing the same is an important part of demonstrating that commitment.
If you have any questions, there are a number of posts on this blog in the Green Plumbing category that you can read. Or feel free to call the office (707 996 8683). We'd be glad to help you out.

Boden Plumbing Now Certified for Backflow
On April 9th, Casey Boden became certified to test and repair backflow prevention valves. Since then he has been busy checking valves all around Sonoma Valley.
The Valley of the Moon Water District and the City of Sonoma Public Works Department require yearly evaluation of all backflow valves that have been installed to prevent irrigation, fire sprinkler, well or other private-side water from mixing with the municipal water supply. These tests must be performed by someone who has been certified to work on backflow prevention valves.
If you've received a notice that your test is soon due, give us a call. We'd be glad to help you out - or give you more information. 707 996 8683

Boden Plumbing Acquires Gene's Plumbing
It's official. In early February Boden Plumbing acquired another Sonoma Valley plumbing company - Gene's Plumbing. Gene Wade has been plumbing in this area for a long time and has many loyal and satisfied customers, but he has decided to retire. Boden was fortunate to be able to take on Gene's business, and we look forward to extending the same fine service and quality workmanship to Gene's customers that they are accustomed to - and that Boden customers enjoy.
The old telephone number for Gene's Plumbing (707-939-7586) now rings through to the Boden Plumbing office. Call us on any of our local numbers for your service area and you will reach us here at the office. We look forward to your call!
